Reading Notes : Narayan Ramayana, Reading B
Two Promises Revived
- It was interesting to see even-though they did not remember their god life, Bharatha promised to rule only for fourteen years until Rama came back. Bharatha even told Rama he would burn himself if Rama does not come back in fourteen years. I think this passage shows great bond between characters and shows how great Rama as a person was. Bharatha does not even enter Ayodhya, which was the capital of the kingdom.
Encounters in Exile
- Scene where he meets the sister of Ravana was interesting in a way that she is a sister of a demon but wishes to be good. Shows family drama which I love.
- Kamavalli annoyed Rama with the marriage until she saw Sita, who was way more beautiful than her. I found this scene funny since the author used the description of her jaw dropping to the ground.
- All these names are confusing me. I am guessing Kamavalli and Soorpanaka are the same character?
- Funny how she turns evil immediately and tires to kill them. Rama made a mistake by sparing her life when Lakshmana tried to kill her
- Kara, Soorpanaka's brother, sounds like an intimidating character as he rules fourteen chieftains under him. Sounds like its going to be an interesting fight between him and Rama.
The Grand Tormentor
- The introduction of Ravana made him sound like a really tough and bad-ass character. He made the god of death, Yana, to sound the gong. Ravana literally made other gods into his servants. When Soorpanaka came in crying, Ravana was soo angry that other gods had to hold their breath. He is a good antagonist in this book.
- It was funny how he went mad to interested in couple of sentences as he was listening about Sita. His whole "lets avenge my sister" went to "Rama does not deserve Sita, she is mine"
- I felt bad for Maricha since he lost his mother and has to obey Ravana's wishes.
- Ravana finally captures Sita, let the rescue the princess begin
