Introduction of myself

(image: Photo taken of me in New York)

Hello! My name is Tim Song and my current major is Biology and Pre-Physical Therapy. One of the coolest thing about being in a bio major is that you can seem really smart and brilliant. I was in the United States Air Force for six years and I finished my enlistment couple of months ago. Due to my work schedule, I couldn't attend the university of Oklahoma. I went to Rose State college for 2 years and OCCC for another 2 years. I received my associates in science in the summer of 2017. This is my first year in OU and I am very excited to learn and experience university life.

My favorite thing to do is to travel. Air Force spoiled me, by sending me to an exotic and beautiful countries and I am hoping to keep that up even when I have to pay out of my pockets now. I was done with my service since the November of 2017 and that meant I had til January of 2018 to do what I desired. First and foremost, I dyed and grew my hair, since Air Force didn't allow me to have any hair longer than an inch.
I traveled back to Virginia to visit my family and friends that I grew up with. During the trip to Virginia, my girlfriend and I decided to visit New York since we were already in the east coast. New York was very cold in late November, but it was worth every penny that I paid. After I got back to Oklahoma, I read all the books that I bought before and just relaxed until the spring semester began. Since I am older than most of the students attending the school, I told myself to work extra hard an to push myself even further than I ever did before so I can graduate before I see my grand kids.

  1. Hi Tim, first and foremost, thank you for your service. I actually grew up in the small town of Altus, Oklahoma which is home to an Air Force Base. You've probably heard about it! That is wonderful that you had a chance to travel and catch up on some reading before the spring semester started. Best of luck to you this year and in your time at OU!

  2. Thank you for your service Tim, and I hope you enjoy your first year of full university life. I have a friend doing the same route as you, managing his deployments with Aerospace Engineering courses at Rose State. Another interesting connection was my former boss at Max Westheimer Airport was an E-3 AWACS pilot, so he always gave us plenty of cool stories on flying those planes all over the world.

  3. Hi, Tim, and what a nice coincidence; I read through the projects in the stack and then when I started the Introductions for today, yours was right near the top too! And how great that you had the chance to travel during your time in the Air Force (my husband spent his career in the Air Force as a meteorologist). Personally, I think taking time off before going to college is a great idea... I did not do anything as intense as you did being in the Air Force but I traveled around and worked for a couple of years before I decided I wanted to go to college. I'm guessing you will find some good connections between the places you have traveled and the geography of the stories you will be reading about in this class. And who knows: if you keep on traveling maybe you will get to go to India or somewhere in south Asia in the future. I wish we could magically travel around the world for this class... but in the absence of travel, stories and images and video can be the magic carpet we fly on.
And that picture of you in New York looks great; everybody looks smarter and more brilliant with a New York City backdrop! :-)

  4. Hey Tim!

Welcome to OU! This campus is beautiful and I'm sure you're going to have an awesome time here. Traveling is definitely something I haven't done enough of in my life. I think that'll be one of the first things I do when I graduate. And I recently went to New York as well! I can confirm that is was very cold and a very interesting experience for someone who has lived in Oklahoma for pretty much his entire life. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your first semester here!

  5. Hey Tim,
Glad you could make it to OU for this class. So cool you got to travel while in the Air Force. I traveled quite a bit overseas when I was younger. I would've liked to be a doctor or something but I sucked at biology in High school so decided that wouldn't work for me. I really hope you enjoy your time here at OU. This class is definately a lot of fun and since this is your first semester here, if able I do recommend the other section (Myth-Folklore) next semester.

  6. Hello Tim!

Thank you for your service. I have a friend who just join the Air Force and she's been traveling quite a lot now. I love to travel as well, and I hope you can continue traveling! I find that putting back $50 to $100 every paycheck (after bills are paid of course), I end up saving a lot more than intended and I can put that money toward traveling! I hope your Spring semester is going well so far and I hope you're enjoying Oklahoma. I look forward to checking out your page over the semester!

  7. Hey Tim! It sounds like you had an incredible break after the Air-Force. I can't wait to graduate and get the time to do all the things I want to. I haven't been to the east coast since I was little, and it just sounds better and better. Good luck with biology; all the STEM fields have pretty tough coursework, but I'm sure you'll do fine.

  8. Tim, thank you for your service! I really enjoyed reading your post. I am a Multidisciplinary Studies major, and one of my areas of focus is biology! I agree - it does make you seem smart even though we may have no idea what we are doing at times! Also, New York is one of my favorite places to visit. There is a mysterious magic that I feel every time my plane touches the ground there! What are your favorite things to do/restaurants to eat at in New York? I am always curious to see what other people enjoy there!

  9. Hi Tim. I'm really glad the air force was so good to you. I don't often hear people with such pleasant experiences coming out of the military. One of my friends is in the air force, but he is just doing air traffic control in North Dakota, and doesn't get to travel much. Don't worry; I think you'll be out of here before your grandkids are born!

  10. Tim, first of all thank you for your service to the country. I think that the air force would be a great branch of the military to check out and hearing that they did you right is good to hear. I am also a bio major and really have had a good time in all my classes and I hope you have too! Well, hope this class treats you well and everything goes smooth for the rest of the semester!

  11. Welcome to OU Tim! I hope you are enjoying it so far. I also love travelling and that's amazing that you were able to travel so much for the Air Force. I'm sure with all your experience with travelling that you will make it happen, no matter your financial status. I look forward to reading your work for the class.

  12. Hey Tim! Welcome to OU! It is so cool that you have decided to finish up your degree here. Thank you so much for your service to our country. It is so awesome that now that you are finished with your enlistment you are able to do some of the things that you have always wanted to. Also, I am very impressed that you came into school with such a good attitude and that you are wanting to work so hard!

  13. Hi Tim you have a really interesting story! You definitely worked hard to get where you are now, and I'm glad that you ended up at OU. I couldn't imagine the difficulty you faced in the Air Force over the past six years and it's impressive that you are going to school now to get your degree. Getting travel paid for is definitely a plus, and it's great that you still like to travel after such a long enlistment. Looking forward to reading your stories.

  14. Thank you so much for your service, Tim! I'm glad that you got to travel quite a bit. I've recently become a huge fan of traveling myself, although I can't really afford to go out of the country unless my parents are feeling extra generous. I bet experimenting with your hair was fun as well. It's a great way to express yourself and now is a good time to get it out of your system. It's been nice meeting you!

First, Thank you for your service. I have family members that have served. Thank you. I also think it is so cool that you got to travel so much. I actually just got back from vacation and I want to travel more. I also have a good buddy that is pre-physical therapy. I think it is a great field to be in. Good luck with the rest of your semester and thanks for sharing.

  16. Hi Time!
Thank you so much for your service. I am sure that you will be able to utilize all that you have learned in your time to all that you do here at OU. Like you, I am also pre-physical therapy. I think it is so important to have many life experiences like you do in order to be able to relate to those coming from all different backgrounds. I'm sure this will enhance your abilities as you enter into the work field!
Thank you for sharing and I look forward to reading your story!

  18. Hello Tim. Nice to meet you. I hope you are liking going to school here. I was also happy to be able to grow my hair back out when I got out. I have never been to New York or Virginia. I hope to be able to go one day. Good luck with Biology and graduating before you see your grand kids.

  19. Hi Tim! Must be really cool getting to go to all those exotic countries in the Air Force, I'd love to travel like that someday. I also love New York too! Such a cool place. Good luck on the rest of school and that Bio degree, it's a lot of work!

  20. Hey Tim, I had read your Project and realized I had not read your introduction yet so I wanted to find you to learn more about you. I think it is amazing that you were in the Air Force. My grandfather is a retired Air Force and he loved every minute of it. He has longer hair now too, I wonder if that is just something military men cannot wait to do when they get out. I hope you have enjoyed your first year at OU and good luck in all of your classes.

  21. Hey there, Tim!
I am also a biology major, so it always great to see someone studying the same subjects as me. Welcome to OU as well! I hope this semester has been going great. I am sure you have been doing just fine as you integrate into University life. My brother is also in the Air Force. He just finished his pilot training last week. I was able to go visit him for his graduation ceremony.

  23. Hi Tim! I'm older than most college students too because I spent 7 years after high school in ballet school and dancing professionally, so I understand the desire to get through school quickly. It's really cool that you are planning to go into physical therapy. As a professional ballet dancer our physical therapists were indispensable. They got me through all sorts of injuries, large and small, as well as everyday aches and pains that come with being a dancer. Good luck!
