Topic Brainstorm

For the topic ideas, I have decided to look into the comic books that was linked. I have managed to find four books that intrigued me the most.

Vishwamitra
This story between King Vishwamitra and Sage Vasishtha was very interesting. The conflict between Vishwamitra and Vasishtha for stealing a cow, Kamadhenu, escalated very quickly. Ever since I was a kid, I was amazed by big battles or fights between two characters. I could focus on how Vishwamitra and Vasishtha fights and eventually, Vssishtha burns all but one of Viswamitras sons and horses. I feels like i could blow this story into an epic scale. Nothing really beats wikipedia when you start the initial search for the story.

Abhimanyu
This revenge tale of Abhimanyu also sounds very promising. I have never heard of this character until now and frankly the story got me hooked! The epic battle between the Pandavas and Kauravas is what I can focus on my project if I desired to go with this story. War books such as, Romance of three kingdoms and Art of War, always made me excited and I feel like I can turn Abhimanyu into a epic war story. Site called Hindupedia has Abhimanyu's background information and his whole life story.

Hanuman To The Rescue
Hanumans tale sounds like the generic hero's story. Hanuman, who can perform miraculous actions, goes on a adventure to save dying Lakshmana, Rama's brother. Along the way, Hauman fights crocodiles, fights Kalanemi, and carries the sun with him. I never heard the tales of Hanuman, but his story sounds very interesting and fun to write about. There is a extensive amount of information about Hanuman in the wikipedia that will help me with more information.

Karna: Brave, Generous, and Ill-Fated Prince
This story reminded me of a Shakespearian tragedy. It has family secrecy, naive and generous main character, and a tragic ending. From his birth to end, Karna lived a tragic life as his mother disowned him, got cursed twice, and he dies in the hands of his own brother. I feel like I can put a spin on this story and make it more like a classical shakespearian tragedy.  Karna's wikipedia page contains vast amount of information that I could use.

  1. Tim, I like the topic ideas you currently are considering for your storybook. It seems we have been drawn to the same things while brainstorming, particularly the battles. Furthermore, both of us seem to be especially partial to the heroic battles, there just is something about those stories of a single man taking on a challenge, against others who are just as powerful or insurmountable hoards, that make for enthralling writing.

  2. If you make a spin-off story of one of the battles, I will definitely have to give it a read. I looked at the story of Vishwamitra earlier, and it has some good content for making a great new epic. I really like the idea of the large scale battles for the setting of a story, since they can inspire many different emotions in the reader.
