Week 2 Post : The Wise Turle

The Wise Turtle
Once upon a time, a old king was living his last days. The king and his council was looking all across his kingdom to find a solution to immortality. King was very sad that his days were shortening and that he had no heir to take over his throne. One day, an old wizard visited the king's castle. Wizard told the king that the solution was to eat an aged turtles liver. King ordered his soldiers to bring him a turtle.

Soldiers were searching along the coast line to looks for a turtle and they found a old turtle strolling along the shores. Soldiers approached the turtle and offered the turtle to meet the king. Since meeting the king was a great honor, turtle took the offer and went off with the soldiers. Once the turtle was obedient, the soldiers tied up the turtle to prevent him from escaping. Old turtles was shocked and asked

"Why have you guys confined me?"

"King desires your liver" said the soldiers.

"Since my liver is desired by many, I have left it in the treasure chest in my house and only I know the secret way of opening it" said the old turtle.

Since soldiers did not want to return to the castle without the liver, they untied the old turtle and allowed the old turtle to return back with the liver.

"Fools, how can one live without their liver" said the turtle as he swam away form the soldiers.

Soldiers were shocked that the old turtle ran away. As they stood dumbfounded, turtle slowly swan away smiling.

Authors Note
I got the idea from the short story Two Turtles Jatakas. I focused especially on the "The Turtle and the King" part of the short story. Its about how wise turtle escaped his death by fooling the king. I put my only twist on it but the story mainly follows the same pattern.

Comments

  1. This is a fun story. It reminds me of another Indian Epic story, The Crocodile and the monkey. I would've liked more information about the original story in the Author's notes. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the story. Well done.

  2. This was one of my favorite stories! I think you did a good job at following the same pattern, however I think it would help to add some more details to give the story more imagery so the audience can visualize the characters more. Maybe add colors or other adjectives to describe the turtle and his liver, such as "the slimy, pink liver" or "wrinkled old turtle."

  3. Hi Tim this was a really entertaining story! I like the spin on the story and how the turtle so easily dumbfounded the soldiers into thinking he stored his liver somewhere else. This story is definitely a great start, but adding more descriptive words would make the story even more enjoyable to read. Great job I look forward to reading more.
